Although Giant Trevally (GT) is the primary target when fishing with a popper, many other species can also be successfully caught using this technique. Species such as salmon, Spanish mackerel, wahoo, mahi-mahi, yellowfin tuna, sailfish, barracuda, and even leather jacket are all potential catches when using a popper lure.

One of my most trusted poppers throughout several years of fishing in Bali and Komodo is the Gecko. This popper, crafted by Adhek Amerta of Adhek Sport Fishing in Bali, weighs only 160 grams. However, when paired with a relatively short rod from Fisherman or Carpenter, PE 8 line, and a Shimano Stella 10000 HG reel, I can consistently achieve casting distances of 60–80 meters without excessive effort.

Equally important is its remarkable effectiveness in attracting large and powerful fish. I am convinced that the Gecko has played a significant role in making me truly passionate about popping—far beyond trolling and other fishing techniques.

Practicing catch and release on every fish I land has made my fishing experiences with ASF even more rewarding.

This is the distinctive character of my pride popper. Believe it or not, ASF poppers are also used by well-known Japanese fishing experts. It is no surprise that in destinations such as the Maldives, South Africa, and Australia, you will find local anglers using ASF poppers as well.
